UGLY ‘N’ WEIRD UPDATE

Last month, I mentioned I’d been working on a collaborative piece with Ben Kooyman about the Australian film Ghosts… of the Civil Dead. That piece is now up on Ben’s website, Down Under Flix, and I urge anyone reading this to check it out.

Here’s a French trailer for the film, because why not?

Ghosts… of the Civil Dead is a film by John Hillcoat and stars Nick Cave as Maynard, a violent psychopath whose demeanour is not all that far removed from the singer’s combative presence as front man for The Birthday Party. Cave also provided the film’s unnerving soundtrack along with Birthday Party alumni Mick Harvey and Blixa Bargeld – also of Einstürzende Neubauten. For those reasons, the piece should be of interest to anyone perusing this site for weird music, and Down Under Flix is just a great place to check out in general, shining a light as it does on forgotten Australian movies that deserve another look-in. I’m honoured to have been a part of this exciting and worthwhile project.

Apart from that, I’ve recently moved from Adelaide to Warragul, Victoria. This has been a huge undertaking, which has somewhat slowed my progress on the Björk piece I’m researching – ie, I haven’t done any more work on it except for a little reading. I’m keen to get back into the swing of it though, and will get something posted next month. Thanks for your patience.

In the meantime, stay ugly and stay weird.

P.S. You may have noticed I’ve changed the site’s font. The default font was proving a bit difficult to read with the formatting I was using, so I hope the new look is an improvement.
